Nancy Roberts
I make hand-built, one-of-a-kind sculpture, from fortune cookies to unheard-of creatures. My work is asymmetrical and abstract with or without recognizable “real” bits. It often features nature.
I love the freedom to work out in clay the compelling ideas that come from I-don’t-know-where. My goal is for the works to create a deep response in the viewer or at least to intrigue and entertain. And there is absolutely more than one answer to “What is it?”
In 2020, I was thrilled that one of my sculptures was chosen from hundreds to be featured on the 2022 Sculpture Calendar of the Ceramic Arts Network – see Elephant in the Room on this page.
I created two solo shows at Swoon Fine Art and a February 2018 solo show, Fishful Thinking, at the Craig Gallery. I have had solo shows at Visual Voice Gallery in Truro in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
I currently participate in juried group shows at the Ice House Gallery in Tatamagouche and Teichert Gallery in Halifax. My work has found its way to collectors in several US states.
Other juried group shows have included the Mary E. Black Gallery, the Craig Gallery, several at Swoon Fine Art in Nova Scotia; and galleries in Hudson NY, Gainesville FL, and Philadelphia.
The Hungry Brain shown here was commissioned by a health practitioner; I’m open to your commission.
There’s a variety of sculpture on the web sites below, and if you wish to see more or request something, I’m happy to hear from you.
