Internationally known, Carol has hand built and thrown porcelain, raku clay since 1972. She expresses impressions of nature, the undersea world, and the creative cycle. Carol creates gallery quality work: figurative, sculptural, murals, chandeliers, functional pieces.
 
Her work is included in public, private collections in Canada, USA, Japan. She has participated in many solo, group exhibitions, received grants, awards and been featured in magazines, books including Studio Ceramics in Canada, Ceramics Monthly, and Lark Books’ 500 Raku.
 
Carol Smeraldo attended Rhode Island School Of Design, Massachusetts College of Art and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. She received the first NS Cultural Life Award and the Progress Club of Canada’s Women of Excellence Award. She helped found the Nova Scotia Designers Craft Council, is a past president, Chair of Standards, Honourary Member and designated a Master Artisan. 

She founded, directed the Halifax Studio School of Pottery and One Off Studio Pottery and developed the school at Atlantic Pottery Supplies.
