It is hard to sum up a career in the craft such as Walter Ostrom CM but as it says on the back of Good Earth, the pots and passion of Walter Ostrom published by AGNS,

“Walter Ostrom has been described as an “innovative traditionalist” a disruptive force shaking up ceramic conventions while simultaneously enriching them.  Hired to teach studio and Asian art history at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1969, Ostrom’s work is shaped by his innate concern with material, place, process, function, decoration, history, and politics.  Recognized as a seminal instructor for generations of artists and as one of the leading figures in the revival of low-fired maiolica, Ostrom is a major influence in the development of contemporary ceramics.”
