Micaila Abboud
Micaila's artistic journey is deeply intertwined with her upbringing in Nova Scotia. Raised on the Eastern Shore, she spent her days discovering the coastline and beachcombing. It was amidst these rugged landscapes of the Atlantic Ocean that Micaila discovered her passion for marine science and her desire to protect marine ecosystems.
Following her heart's calling, Micaila embarked on a seven-year academic pursuit at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She explored the depths of marine studies, nurturing her admiration for the ocean and earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree. However, her artistic soul yearned for expression beyond scientific inquiry.
In her artwork, Micaila seeks to capture the essence of the ocean, translating its beauty into tangible ceramic forms. Drawing inspiration from the elements that surrounded her upbringing, Micaila’s work reflects the fluidity of the ocean and the intricate details of its inhabitants. She uses the potter's wheel alongside hand building techniques to craft sculptures, with a particular focus on organic coral and shell formations.
