For almost 40 years Janet has created functional and decorative pieces to enhance people’s homes and lives. Her first studio was in Hudson, Quebec. Then in 1993 she moved to Halifax and for 8 years had a studio on Agricola St. In 2004 she moved her studio to her home on Fuller Terrace, and then to a home studio on Ravenrock Lane, in Clayton Park. In 2016 she did an artist residency at Art Lab Gallery and Studios and for the next 4 years had a studio there
Janet has a Diplome d’etudes collegiales en Arts Appliques Ceramiques, from John Abbott College, and a BFA in ceramics from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University. Her work has won awards including Best Body of Work, Nova Scotia Designer Craft Council summer festival 1998, and the Peoples’s Choice Award, Fireworks Exhibition 2003.
She has done several artists residencies, Banff Centre for the Arts in 1990, A.I.R Vallauris, France in 2013 and Art Lab artist residency in Parrsboro 2016.
“Since moving to Parrsboro in 2016, I have been using local red earthenware clay which I dig from the shores of the Bay of Fundy, near Diligent River. I have found inspiration for both my functional work and one-of-a-kind pieces in the rugged shore line of the place that has become my home.”
