NSPG 30th Anniversary Exhibition
CALL FOR ENTRY AND GUIDELINES
The Board of the Nova Scotia Potters Guild is happy to announce the 2022 members’ exhibition marking the Thirtieth Anniversary - the Pearl Anniversary - of the Nova Scotia Potters Guild at the Craig Gallery in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
LAYERS: Selected works by members of the Nova Scotia Potters Guild Show opens November 2, 2022.
Selection:
Work will be selected through blind assessment by the jury. Selection will be made based on exhibition theme; craftsmanship and quality; and concept. Entries should have LAYERS evident in their concept and execution, with concrete and/or abstract interpretations of the theme. Much like our guild, pearls are something precious which start from small beginnings and build up in layers over time. There are many ways to approach LAYERS, from layered forms, layering of clay bodies (for example carvings that expose coloured porcelain); use of multiple layered glazes, etc. You may wish to feature pearl lustre in reference to our thirtieth anniversary.
The Jurors’ choices will be final.
When the work is delivered for exhibit, if it is found to be unsafe or of poor craftsmanship (glaze faults, s-cracks, etc.), the committee may choose not to exhibit the work.
Eligibility:
Open to all individual members of the NSPG from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI. Those not currently members of NSPG may participate after joining the Guild. For more information about joining the Guild, go to www.nspotters.com/join-1/
How to enter: Entry Form will be downloadable from the NSPG website and will contain details for submissions. Look to see it on the website by July 1st.
Entry Fee
$10 per entry. Cheques, money order, cash and e-transfer are accepted. Fees can be made in person to Carol Morrow, Treasurer, mailed to her or e-transferred, and are due when submission is made.
Carol Morrow email: nspgtreasurer@gmail.com Box 731, Lunenburg, NS. B0J 2C0 Phone: 902-634-3977
DEADLINE: October 8th, 2022 (New deadline thanks to Fiona!!!!)
Entry Rules and Documentation:
Each entrant may submit a maximum of 3 entries. If space is limited, we may be limited to exhibit one work per artist. Work must have been made after November 2021. As the jury will review digital images in their selection process, it is in your best interest to submit high-quality photographs. Photographs that are sub-par could influence the jurors to reject work, even if the content is of interest.
Size of Work: All entries must fit through a standard doorway. Entries must not require unusual care. Objects may hang from a ceiling (10 lb limit), hang on the wall, be placed on the floor, or placed on tabletop/plinth. Water and electricity are also welcome additions to works. For specific guidelines and approval specifically related to installation, contact the Exhibition Committee. Please do not contact the Craig Gallery.
Digital Images only
High quality images are most important as the jurors will select from these submissions (low quality photographs could disqualify an entry). Work should be photographed on plain, white background with proper lighting.
Maximum of 2 images per entry (labeled as a&b).
Image files should be jpg only, 300 ppi, or 300 dpi approximately 4”x6”, files no larger than 2MB.
Label each file as:
Entry 1 YourName.01.jpg
Entry 2 YourName.02a.jpg
YourName.02b.jpg
Entry 3 YourName.03.jpg
Artist’s Fee: There will be an artist’s fee offered to all whose work is selected.
Pricing, Sales and Insurance:
All works may be priced to sell. The Craig Gallery will retain 35%. Insurance is the responsibility of the artist.
Jurors’ Choice Award:
Jurors will select one work to receive the Jurors’ Choice Award. A cash prize of $200 will be awarded.
Peoples’ Choice Award:
The public will be asked to select one work to receive the Peoples’ Choice Award. Voting will take place for the duration of the show. A cash prize of $100 will be awarded.
